Simple Gut Support uses the latest technology to produce potent colostrum that supports optimum immune function and intestinal health.*
Simple Gut Support provides a combination of immune and growth factors, including immunoglobulins, lactoferrin, insulin-like growth factor (IGF-1), amino acids and other important nutrients. The colostrum in Simple Gut Support comes from healthy, nutritionally supplemented cattle raised in the U.S. on USDA and FDA-certified farms. These cattle are carefully fed a scientifically designed diet that contains the proper balance of legumes and grasses, along with minerals and trace minerals to ensure consistently high-potency colostrum.
The bovine colostrum in Simple Gut Support is the first milk secreted from mammary glands in the first few days after birth, and it contains nutrients to support the growth and immunological function of highly sensitive neonates. The composition of bovine colostrum differs from milk produced later in lactation, and almost all essential nutrients including protein, fat, lactoferrin, immunoglobulins, vitamins, minerals, and growth factors are present in higher concentrations in bovine colostrum than in mature milk.
Immunoglobulins
Although immunoglobulins can traverse the placental barrier in humans, maternal immunoglobulins do not cross the placenta in cattle. Therefore, BC contains immunoglobulins in higher concentrations than in humans because it is the sole natural source of immunoglobulins for passive immunity for newborns. The major immunoglobulin in bovine colostrum is IgG, and Simple Gut Support is standardized to contain a minimum of 40% immunoglobulin G (IgG), which plays a role in both passive immunity and modulation of the adaptive immune system.
Lactoferrin
Lactoferrin is an iron-binding glycoprotein found in bovine colostrum that binds to lipopolysaccharides and has antibacterial and antiviral activity*. Lactoferrin also stimulates the growth of fibroblasts and intestinal epithelial cells. Lactoferrin also induces the secretion of anti-inflammatory cytokines and induces the stimulation of T helper 1 and T helper 2 cytokine immune response. It also plays a role in the activation, maturation, and migration of macrophages, granulocytes, natural killer cells, and B and T cells.*
Lysozymes
Lysozymes are lytic enzymes found in bovine colostrum that target peptidoglycan cell components found primarily in gram-positive bacteria. Bovine colostrum also contains a range of immune-regulating cytokines including interleukin (IL)-6 and IL-10. The IL-10 is involved in the prevention of an excessive inflammatory response.
Growth Factors
Growth factors are an important component of BC. Insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) helps maintain muscle mass and stimulates the growth of muscle tissue.* IGF-1 is also associated with the proliferation of cells in intestinal crypts. IGF-2 plays a role in intestinal epithelial cell differentiation. Platelet-derived growth factor may facilitate the healing of ulcers and is a mitogen for fibroblasts.* Other animal studies with bovine colostrum therapy showed improvements in stool consistency, occult blood, and clinical recovery from colon inflammation.*
